Case Study: Pecos Monastery, NM

pecosThe Pecos Benedictine Monastery hired Sasha Earl, under Border WaterWorks, to design a wastewater treatment system. The Monastery needed to replace a failing system that was comprised of an unlined evaporation pond adjacent to the Pecos River in New Mexico. Design options were limited because of high regulatory standards and site conditions. Successful completion of this project not only protects the water quality of the Pecos River and nearby groundwater, it also serves as a local example of a simple-to-operate wastewater treatment option for nitrogen remediation. Disposal of effluent includes a drip irrigation system for a local farmer cultivating alfalfa. Mr. Earl also provided construction administration services for this project.
